R. Capodimonte Porcelain and Gold Leaf Cigarette/Lipstick holder with Reuge Carousel Music Box
Vintage 1960s. Like new with Reuge\'s Romance label and original tag still on. 12\" tall, 5\" wide. Original box.Musical tune is the beautiful \"Music Box Dancer\" by Frank Mills.
Italian Capodimonte Porcelain Carousels were hand made and hand painted in a small town near Florence, Italy. This carousel music box has tiny cherubs in different poses painted in vivid cobalt blue over white with floral designs and gold leaf trim. Capodimonte Crest on the top. Perfect condition with no discoloration, flaws or signs of use.
Music box is wound from the bottom. Top finial is turned to open the 4 doors and reveal the cigarette/lipstick holders. Inside the ballerina twirls and dances up, down and around to music. Twist the top finial to close doors, stop the music and dancing ballerina.
The Reuge musical mechanism takes three months to make. Manufactured in Switzerland by the renowned Charles Reuge Music Company with its Romance name. The Reuge Romance label is attached on carousel bottom with the identifying model number.Italian Capodimonte dancing carousel music boxes are no longer made.
Original family owner was a collector of fine music boxes. This Capodimonte was purchased new possibly in the 1960s. It has been boxed and stored for over 18 years.
Estate piece. Like-new perfect condition. Works as new.
