VINTAGE US CAVALRY CURB HORSE BIT MARKED #1 BTC US- M 1914 MODEL? *NR:

Up for sale is an old US Cavalry horse bit. It is stamped 1 on the left cheek at the mouthpiece, BTC on the mouthpiece and US on the right cheek at the mouth. The bit was made by the Bridgeport Tool Company. The mouthpiece measures 4-1/4\" wide as it should for the size #1.
At first I thought this was the M 1909 model curb bit, but after looking at the photos in the Bits and Bridles book by Gerhard Malm, I think it might actually be the M-1914 artillery bit. I say this because the distance between the rein rings and the fixed loop (for a curb strap) on the cheekpiece is longer on the M-1914 bit, just as it seems to be on this bit. The folks reading this sale will know more about military bits than I do and you may know which model this bit actually is.
The bit is in good condition for it\'s age with light rust and some surface pitting. It is solid with no bends, breaks or repairs.
