Very fancy 1809 Wm. Ellerby Georgian sterling silver pierced & decorated ladle:

We are listing this extremely fancy pierced and repousse decorated 1809 Georgian lightly gilded sterling silver ladle by the London silversmith William Ellerby. The ladle has a beautifully decorated handle with an open cartouche at the top, a wonderful scalloped oval bowl which is pierced and repousse decorated,and it is marked on the back of its handle with a lion passant, crowned leopard\'s head, the date letter O (used in 1809-1810), a duty mark facing right, and a W*E maker\'s mark. This mark was registered in 1802 by London silversmith William Ellerby (see page 220 of Grimwade\'s London Goldsmiths 1697-1837). The ladle is over 7 inches long, has an oval bowl over 2.25 inches across, weighs a very substantial 1.8 ounces, is wonderfully shaped, pierced, decorated, and lightly gilded, and it is in very good condition. Please view the closeup pictures and judge for yourself (the spoon has not been professionally polished). A simply beautiful extremely fancy Georgian ladle. Since the piece is not monogrammed, it would be easy to personalize it either for yourself or as a gift for someone else.
