Scarce oil on canvas (at least I haven\'t seen another one for sale) from Nevis by probably the most recognized artist of that Caribbean island. She studied art in the UK and returned to Nevis in 1925 where she founded a gallery and started painting professionally. Plenty of info on the internet. Inscription verso dates it to 1926 making it one of her very early works.Framed, inscribed and dated verso. What looks like a small scratch visible to the right of the woman\'s head, see photo, otherwise condition is very good, ready to hang. Has canvas maker\'s stamp verso.Size of artwork is 40cm x 56cm (15.75x22\").
