Here is a lovely example of an old and complete Sudanese kaskara sword likely from the first third of the 20th century. The massive sword is 43in. overall, with a native forged blade of 35.5in. The blade shows some crudeness typical of native forgers of the region, including imperfect fullers and forging flaws. The blade is still very sharp. The hilt is wood wrapped in leather cording that is reinforced at both ends of the grip. The pommel is leather covered wood. The crossguard is of typical form and is iron. The scabbard is beautifully worked tooled leather with a metal shape... and silver thimble used as a chape tip! All the straps and cords are present, including the thin chest cross strap and the wider, more elaborate, shoulder strap with decorative cords.This is very nice example of a kaskara, showing nice patina throughout, and is clean and complete.There is a $35.00 shipping fee on this oversized item, including shipping and insurance, more outside the US.NO SHIPPING TO CHINA OR RUSSIA.
