As young men during Italy’s pre-war years, Victor and Gogliardo shared an enthusiastic passion for stamp collecting, succeeded only by their devotion to the girls they loved, and later to their marriage and children. A fond memory of the Grassi family was the day their first-born baby son opened his eyes for the first time, and saw an album page of beautiful Italian stamps held in the hand of his father.
After the war Victor and Gogliardo expanded their philatelic passions to world-wide stamp collecting. This satisfied Gogliardo’s desire for world travel, while Victor actually took his family from Europe to Australia, then to the Americas, traveling around the world, his family lifestyle. This way the two friends increased their world-wide collections trading philatelic treasures with each other from distant corners of the globe. From Gogliardo came post-war Europe, and from Victor came the rest of the world.
By the 1960’s the two friends had come to be seasoned and experienced philatelic collectors. They had progressed from the traditional postmarked philately, to more sophisticated collections of pristine new stamps in beautiful series. Still, as mature philatelists, both Victor and Gogliardo kept a deep appreciation for postmarked items, which they asserted, were items which had completed their true philatelic purpose.
Victor’s collections are currently being listed for sale in our store “The Lion’s War”. More about Victor andabout his collections on our blogsite: www.lionswar.com ... and also in the accounts of our family historyrecently published by Amazon : “Arrivederci Leopolis. The Lion’s War”.
