Very Rare 1941 Midwest Z-18 \"Organ Grand\" antique radio-Completely Restored:
$600.00

Very few people have even heard of, much less seen a Midwest radio. Midwest Radio Corporation of Cincinnati, Ohio, began in 1920, and lasted until 1957. What was unique about Midwest, is that they were sold by mail-order only. No salesman.
This is a dual speaker, 18 tube, 5-band radio. The \"claro\" walnut deco-style cabinet is enhanced by burl walnut inlays. The tubes in the front are supposed to represent the pipes on an organ, hence the name \"Organ Grand\". It has twobuilt-in antennas, so no external antenna is required (it definately doesn\'t hurt in outlying areas, however).
The cabinet was stripped, some minor veneer issued addressed, and refinished using stain and different color toners. It then had 10 coats of nitro cellulose lacquer applied, hand rubbed, and finally waxed (top and sides only were waxed).
The chassis has been completely gone through, with suspect and/or bad parts replaced, re-wired where needed, and a new power cord installed. The radio was then realigned to factory specs. It picks up A.M. radio stations clearly all across the dial. The short-wave bands could not be tested because of my locale, and the fact there are very few stations available.
Please note that the escutcheon and knobs are not perfect. This, unfortunately, is the result that 75 years of time has on substances such as tenite and bakelite, which were used in the manufacturing of most knobs and trim pieces used in most antique radios. But unlike many other maufacturers, there are no reproduction parts available for the Midwest because of it\'s rarety. They are not broken, just slightly warped.
The radio is not as tall as most floor models. It measures 35\" tall by 32 1/2\" wide by 13 1/2\" deep, and weighs 70 lbs.
I prefer local, free pickup, but I will ship to the U.S. and Canada. The shipping charges depicted by are most likely incorrect. If you are the winner of this sale, please wait until I send you an invoice before you pay. For U.S shipping, the radio will be taken to the local FedEx facility, where they will pack and ship it. This way FedEx is responsible for both packing and shipping. For this feature, they charge an additional $35-$45. I have shipped several radios this way without a problem. Shipping charges, including packing, should be in the neighborhood of $200 to $250, but that also is dependent upon your location. Shipping to Canada will most likely be packed and shipped by UPS.
Please ask any questions before you offer.
