James Wilkinson ( 1757-1825 ) lead shall we say an interesting life. Although we now know that Wilkinson was a Spy for the Spanish Government ( Agent No. 13) he was also head of the the United States Army, Revolutionary War Hero, first territorial Governor of Missouri., etc. Undoubtedly involved with the Burr conspiracy he was Court-martialed in 1811 (he was found not guilty). Court-martialed again in 1815 for the debacle at Montreal in the War of 1812 ( again found not guilty-although he had been relieved of command in April , 1814) This two sided letter was written in 1815 Framed description tells the story of what was written Purchased at sale with provenance from Wilkinson relative in New Orleans Somewhat faint but writing is clear Unique two sided frame so letter can be seen on both sides. Measures 14 X 21 inches
