Very Rare Pink 1987 Sony FD-42A Watchman TV Television -- Near Mint & Working:
$149.99

You are offerding on a very rare pink Sony Watchman FD-42A TV in working condition.

Starting in the late 1970\'s Sony, Panasonic, and a few lesser-known companies raced to to see who could build the world\'s smallest TV set. Arguably, Sony eventually won that race with their Watchman TV\'s. Sony had to do some amazing engineering to squeeze a complete TV set into a pocket sized case. They developed a special right angle picture tube so that their Watchmen TV\'s could be made very thin (see last photo).

This sale is for one of the least common Sony Watchman TV\'s, a pink model FD-42A. This is essentially the same model as carried by Dustin Hoffman in the film Rainman, but with a pink case. It has a much larger screen than most other Sony Watchmen (almost 4\" diagonally). The overall size is 8.5\" tall by 5\" wide by 3\" deep. Sony made this TV in dark grey, white, blue, and pink. Pink is the least common color.

This particular FD-42A was made in May, 1987. It is serial number 105475. It is in near-mint cosmetic condition (see photos). This TV is also working (see photo 3) and produces a much better picture than I could capture with my cheap digital camera. Sound is also clear.

Like all TV\'s of the 1980\'s this is an analog television that cannot directly receive today\'s digital broadcasts. The US has now virtually eliminated analog TV broadcasting, so you may wonder how I was able to make the photos of the TV in operation. I have a digital-to-analog TV converter and an analog TV distribution amplifier like those used in hotels. Connected to a pair of simple rabbit ears this distribution amplifier radiates an analog TV signal that is strong enough to be picked up when an analog television is nearby. This is an easy way to make vintage analog portable TV\'s like this one work without clumsy wires. You can easily find such a distribution amplifier on . You could also operate this TV from analog TV sources such as VCR\'s, Laserdisc players, and some DVD players using their analog RF output.

This FD-42A is a duplicate from my collection of vintage television sets.

Ihave been collecting antique radios and TV\'s for more than 30 years. Please watch my future sales for more vintage radio and TV items.
