It is a very vintage Marshall Field & Company Chicago Toilet Paper Holder. The metal holder is about 4 3/4" wide by 1 1/4" long. It holds a 3 1/2" wide by 1/2" diameter roll which I believe is a wrapped paper cover with the Marshall Field name printed on it. It is in great condition for its age. Why in the world anyone would have salvaged this is beyond me, but it certainly makes a unique find.
