Very Rare Vintage WW2 Period RAF Car Badge - J.R.Gaunt Chrome Enamel Kings Crown:

This is a superb and rare very early example of a British Royal Air Forcecar badge made by the renowned maker JR GAUNT.

It is made from solid heavy brass and chromed-plated with three colourenamel to front with the heavy embossed motto – “PER ARDUA AD ASTRA”.

It has the makersmark to lower attachment point of \"JR GAUNT, LONDON\".

Iobtained this for my collection some time ago when I acquired a number of itemsof pre-WW2 RAF items and Battle of Britain mementoes belonging to an airman whoserved from the First Word War period and on through the Second World War.

It isnot dated but the King’s crown makes it definitely prior to 1953 and likely tobe Second World War – I can imagine it fitted to the grill of a war-timefighter pilot’s MG sports car parkednear dispersal!

The badge measures 14.3 cm x 7.8 cmwith two fixing holes forattachment to a badge bar to its base.

It is in superb, undamaged used condition for its age. The very deep,vivid enamel is complete and unmarked. The metalwork s bright but it also has anice aged patina with the polished brass shining through the chrome-plating tothe high spots.
