Very nice 1786-90 Hester Bateman Georgian bright cut sterling silver sugar tongs:

We are listing these very nicely decorated 1786-1790 Georgian bright cut sterling silver sugar tongs by the world renowned female London silversmith Hester Bateman (probably the best known silversmith of all time). The tongs are gently flared and very nicely decorated, and they are marked inside one arm with a lion passant and a duty mark facing right, and inside the other arm with the instantly recognizable cursive HB maker\'s mark. This mark was registered in 1778 by London silversmith Hester Bateman (see page 78 of Grimwade\'s London Goldsmiths 1697-1837). The tongs are over 5.25 inches long, weigh 1 ounce, they are very nicely decorated, and they are in very good condition (the decoration is rubbed on the top and bottom edges of the bow). Please view the closeup pictures and judge for yourself (the tongs have not been professionally polished). You can see other examples of Hester\'s tongs on the silversugartongs website, but this is a very nice pair. Since they are not monogrammed, it would be easy to personalize this pair, either for yourself or as a gift for someone else.
