Up for sale is an authentic Victor Animal Trap Company of America, American Black Hen Duck Decoy, circa 1910\'s or earlier as indicted by the material of rough machined wood with glass eyes and early uniquely imperfect style. It is very old, factory carved, and made with a blue/gray bill and features a hollowed out wood body indicating its a true working decoy. It appears to be unsigned and any markings have been lost when it was hollowed out but is in the accurate style, carvingtechnique, together with the note attached from a previous owner indicating it is indeed by Victor. It does appear to have the original paint as the note suggests. This decoy comes with a nice looking leather band around the neck that was also applied by a previous owner to add more character as shown in the photos.

The longest producer of hunting decoys, the Animal Trap Company of North America began producing in 1848. After World War I, the company began producing wooden duck decoys. Animal Traps are known for the unique carving pattern. Decoys which have the\"VICTOR\" cold stamped were produced during 1918-1938, and beginning in 1939 wood decoys had round or rectangular ink stamps on the bottom. These stamps also indicated where the decoy was made. Production in Pascagoula, Mississippi began in 1939 and continued through 1949. The form and style is looks great for an early US factory decoy. It is in good condition for age with many imperfections and areas of wear from usage appropriate to age with a very loose head.
