Description

If you are a purveyor of one-of-a-kind antique jewelry, you will love this piece!! It\'s a Victorian double brooch pin with a slide chain swag, and it\'s just gorgeous! I have another interesting gold chatelaine this week if you\'re a collector--please take a look!

I imagine this swag would be worn as a beautiful adornment to a high-collared dress in Victorian times, pinning both of the pins to the collar or bodice.

This piece is obviously handmade. I had never seen a \"stickpin brooch\" until I started researching this one, and apparently, there are a few others out there, but none as nice as this one.

One side of this double pin is a diamond bar-style brooch, done in 10k rose gold, in the popular sword motif. A pretty BIG old mine cut diamond (4.3 x 2.9 mm deep and approximately .34 ct) very white and fiery, but unfortunately it has suffered two chips visible under high magnification. It\'s set in a six-pronged Belcher head. The diamond chips do NOT detract from the overall beauty of this piece.

The rose gold sword bar pin is attached to a 10k yellow gold mesh sliding watch chain, with an embossed barrel slide decorated with stripes of black enamel, which moves freely up and down the double chain.

Finally, the best part! The other end of the chain is attached to an elaborately detailed oval disc of 14k gold, with black enamel leaves and intricate detail (in excellent condition!) and a seed pearl in the center.

The goldsmith or maker painstakingly cut, fashioned and soldered to the back of the gold oval disc five beautiful old European diamond stick pins, banding them together with a gold band upon which a garnet and seed pearl bow is centered. The diamonds in the stick pins measure from 2.55 mm to 3.5 mm at the largest, and total approximately .61 carats, bringing diamond weight to about .95 ctw. One of the stick pins is very cool--it\'s a bee or flying insect with a baroque pearl for the bottom of the body, and diamonds for the center body and the head.

As for the gold content...it\'s all over the place. The sword pin tests positive for 10k gold. The chain also tests positive for 10K gold. The oval disc with the enamel to which the pins are attached is 14K gold, and the stick pins are both 10K gold and 14K gold.

It\'s just a really neat piece for the collector. The sword pin measures 2\" long. The other end with the stick pins measures 2\" by 1 7/8\". The chain (doubled up) is 8.5\" long. The whole swag with the two brooches weighs 25.3 grams. It is in excellent condition other than the one chipped diamond in the sword.
