Valentine\'s Day Sale - Reduced from $445 to $399A very rare swinger, larger than most -- this Beauty would have hung from a suspended oil lamp or chandelier in a Victorian lady\'s boudoir. Plus Points - rarely seen in this larger size, rarely found in such excellent shape - and it is rare to find an angel! I\'ve seen many swingers with people sitting on swings, but only rarely do I come across an angel. Beautifully modeled from head to toe, with the classic Conta and Boehme face, blushed and painted to perfection, with deeply molded hair and wings, and dimpled knees, elbows and hands.
It is light-weight and would be stunning on a larger Christmas tree.

Marked with numbers impressed to bottom of foot.
Condition- Excellent - just the usual tiny imperfections that are always part of the German bisque
manufacture (firing) process, ie mineral spots, a tiny depression on the cheek.
Interesting historical note - Why is this angel crossing his arms and holding them out in front of him, you ask? Well, the hanging Victorian oil lamp would have been on a pulley system so it could be lowered to light or extinguish, and then raised again. The decorative swinger that hung from the bottom of the lampwas often made so that a small basket of match sticks (to light the oil lamp) could be tied on with a ribbon, which is why in this case the angel has folded arms away from his body ; ) Leave it to the Victorians to make sure every inch of air space was lavishly decorated!
