This Victorian era antique large banquet size jacquard loom black and blue wool paisley shawl dates from the 1880s. It is made of jacquard hand loomed woven wool done in shades of blue, gold, black and white. These paisley shawls were made in Kashmir, Persia, India, Russia, USA and Europe in Scotland at Paisley itself. This stunning shawl has wonderful workmanship and detail with a black fringed border on the two ends, white selvage along the side edgings and a large black wool center. These paisley shawls were very popular during the mid to late 1800s with at least one being included in every better class trousseau. This outstanding oversized large banquet size shawl throw tablecover measures 138 inches long and 66 inches wide. It is in excellent condition. This is truly a rare large sized example of paisley textile art!
