A beautiful Victorian burr walnut and parquetry writing slope. C late 19th century.
Burr walnut veneer with bands of parquetry to the top and front. The interior is ebonised veneer with a blue baize writing surface.The box measures 12\" x 9\" x 6\" when closed and 12\" x 18\" opened.In fairly good condition for its age with a lovely honey colour, although unfortunately the key is missing. A little of the inlay is missing from the left side on the front of the box, a small area of the ebonised veneer missing and a little of the stringing near the hinge. The blue baize and the decorative border have some ware around the hinge. The slope lifts on both sides to allow storage beneath, these are simply hinged on the fabric and the lower side has been strengthened with a strip of fabric underneath and has a blue ribbon handle.
