Victorian Carved Walnut Newel Post Antique Architectural Black Forest Staircase Floral Finial
Beautiful Black Forest carving! My heart skips a beat with this piece of architectural salvage! This is an amazing antique Victorian carved black walnut wood or wooden finial for a newel post of a staircase. The post topper of this floral finial is remarkable carved with fine detail showcasing a bouquet of different flowers with roses or rosebuds, cabbage roses, chrysanthemums and or forget me not buds....and leaves that wrap and embrace the floral carvings. The finial tapers with a band of beadwork and rising acanthus type leaves on the base. This hand carved sculpture is a beautiful example of a skilled artisan of the day! Certainly this piece can be displayed on a table, shelf or mantel not a staircase!
The carving is in excellent condition with only two area that I see a \"nib\" or \"tip\" off of a flower petal which I have left unattended so you can see in the photos. The patina is grand and I have only misting with a spray can of air to remove some dust built up. Slight cleaning necessary with a soft toothbrush and a gentle wood cleaner of your choice. And a drop of stain can be added to the two spots.

The finial measures approximately 12 inches tall or high and has a base diameter of 2 3/4 inches with a center peg hole measuring 1 1/16 inches in diameter. The carved floral bouquet top billows to approximately 5 7/8 inches in diameter.
This hand carved sculpture is a beautiful example of a skilled artisan of the day!
