This is a stunning Edwardian circa 1910 9 carat gold Scottish agate brooch.This is a commision piece where a beautiful Scottish agate has been taken and finished to produce a beautiful 9 carat gold frame brooch.
I have collected agates in Scotland for over 20 years and know where most of the lovely gemstones that Victorians used for their classic jewellery were found.
The stone is a rare plume and fortification carnelian agate from near Balmullo in Fife. The plume affect through the stone is very striking and makes a superb agate brooch!
The brooch has a 9 ct stamp on the back of the frame for 9 carat solid gold. The length is 2.8 cm ( The stone is 1.0 cm high ) and the pin and C clasp are in good working condition and original.
