Outstanding example of a Victorian 19th century crocheted micro-beaded beggars or miser\'s purse. Gorgeous steel cut shining beads with bands of ombre toned reds, taupes and black.

Condition is so excellent that I have no imperfections to point out other than tarnish on the silver ring that slides from one side to the other.

14\" x 2-1/2\" long, long skinny purse was designed to hold coins which enter through the center slit shown in last photo.

Coins were relegated to each side based on their worth; the silver (I assume plated) ring held it tightly closed in the middle. Owner would wear this over a belt and depending on amount he needed, he would \"squeeze\" the coins up from either side to the center opening or mouth so the story is you had to \"squeeze the money out of him, he was such a miser!\" Quite a terrific background story!

This is a beauty. One end is finished with scalloped metallic crochet thread and the other is a drawstring with 3 steel grey beads. Terrific example of an unusual addition to your collection.
