This is one of the finest pieces I have ever offered for sale and shows clearly the incredible workmanship of the Scottish Victorian craftsmen. This quality is simply breathtaking and is a piece for the very serious collector of discerning taste.The stunning gemstones used for this brooch are an excellent selection of stones with grey banded Montrose agates. PLEASE NOTE: The stones are in excellent condition with no cracks or chips and only the usual few tiny edge nibbles commensurate with age.The brooch has a very high quality silver frame. The center is a wonderful agate set Maltese cross which is surrounded by a circular ring. The engraving on the brooch is just stunning! The brooch has no hallmarks which is fairly normal for brooches of this period, but has been fully tested and is sterling silver. The diameter is huge at 5 cm ( two inches ) and the pin and C clasp are in good working condition and original. PLEASE NOTE: There are a few very small dings in the back again completely commensurate with age.It is difficult to summarize this piece due to the rarity and quality but suffice to say it would be extremely hard to ever find a finer example of a Scottish agate silver brooch!This is a stunning estate jewel with great drama and style. The combination of the extraordinary antique banded agates with the silver work is mesmerizing. Together they create a jewel worthy of the finest collection. This is so immensely wearable either during the day or at the most glamorous affair.
