I have collected beer steins and glasses for 50 years. Now it is time todownsize a bit, so upfor sale is an antique Mettlach beer stein with an intricate geometricfloral design.

This stein haswonderful chromolith (commonly called etched) decoration of what appears to bea flower and leaves in green, brown and gray.

This is a 1/4 liter stein with a recessed base. It is 6⅛ inches talloverall (4¾ inches to the rim) and has a diameter of 3½ inches at the base (2¾inches at the rim).

Condition: The stein is in MINTcondition. It has no flea bites, chips, hairlines, cracks, crazing or staining.The pewter has no dings or dents and the 5-ring hinge and strap are tight. Theinterior is milky white. In fantastic condition for a 129 year old stein and isabout as fine an example of this stein as you can get.

Markings: The bottom ofthe stein has the standard Mettlach marks. The following are impressed: theAbbey Tower with the “METTLACH V&B” banner, the moldnumber “1654”, year made (“87” for 1887), quality control number “5” (lookslike a “C” until you zoom in) and the Roman numeral “II” which is the OLDcapacity code indicating this second largest size for the mold number, in thiscase ¼ liter.
