This is a vintage 18\" Ebony Parallel Rule with 3 brass hinges. It is marked \"C. POTTER - TORONTO\" on the front side. Charles Potter (1831-1899) was one of the leading opticians, instrument makers and businessmen of 19th century Ontario. He played an important role in the early history of the first astronomical society in Canada, and was instrumental in establishing the first telephone exchange in Toronto.

I rate this Parallel Ruler in GOOD + CONDITION overall. Uncleaned. It has a strong maker\'s mark. A couple minor edge / corner chips. A very interesting example of this early Canadian parallel rule for you to add to your antique measuring tool collection!
