Here is a composition Shirley Temple look-a-like doll from the 1930\'s. She is in wonderful condition, she has tin sleep eyes, a wonderful smile with teeth, and dimples in her cheeks. On the bottom of one of her feet the composition is chipping a little.
She comes with 4 costumes that are fabulous reproductions made by Catherien Kauffman. Here is a brief description of Catherine found in a doll magazine:
Catherine Kauffman, of Danville, Pa., is a self-taught seamstress who started sewing on a treadle sewing machine at age 14 out of economic necessity. One of 16 children, Kauffman’s mother died when Kauffman was only 11. The family couldn\'t afford extras such as dolls. As a teenager, Kauffman honed her sewing skills working in a pajama factory and later as a seamstress in a hospital laundry. Sewing for dolls came much later after her daughter was born. Now Kauffman makes approximately 40 “Shirley Temple” outfits, creating patterns from pictures of the original costumes. Brigitte from France owns three outfits and is thrilled with the faithfully detailed reproduction Kauffman made for her composition Shirley Temple doll.
Kauffman’s customer, Ann Sting from Florida, sums up every vintage doll collector’s goal best in describing the outfits that Kauffman created for her composition dolls: “I want my dolls to be as original as possible but would rather have reproductions of the original outfits made by Catherine than buy high priced fragile dresses that are 60 or 70 years old. She researches her fabrics and creates each one to the finest detail.” The Texas Ranger or Cowgirl outfit has real leather chaps and vest. It also has a leather hat, leather holster with gun, scarf, blouse and pants. You can see in the pictures ow detailed this outfit is and how close to the original it is. There are two \"Baby Take a Bow\" dresses. One red with white polka dots, one white with red polka dots. One has a slip and pant combo, and one has pants. The white dress with the red polka dots comes with a replica Shirley button.Then comes the airplane outfit from the movie \"Bright Eyes\". This outfit has a faux leather red coat with belt, faux leather red boots, and the faux leather red hat with ear flaps. What fun this costume is.This outfit can fit a little bigger doll, as I have rolled up the pants legs and sleeves of the coat. But it looks great on the 18 inch size doll.Again, these outfits were made by the wonderful Cathy Kauffman. Each outfit is a work of art.
