ORIGINAL 1938 PAIR OF PAINTED MARQUETRY INLAID WOOD PANELS OF FISH & BIRDS SIGNED ILLEGIBLYThis is a great piece. I have been trying to do research on these panels for a few months now. Unfortunately I have had no success at figuring out who the artist is. On the back of one of the panels is a label that reads: \"The subject of this panel is inlaid with natural wood and the water enameled. Originally designed and executed by --------- 1938\". I am unable to read the signature of the artist but I am fairly confident that the date below the signature reads 1938. I really wish I could read the signature as I believe these are done by some well listed professional artist. The quality is just so good. Each wood panel measures 22 1/2 x 9 inches. The bird panel has the 2 birds as well as the rocks below are all inlaid wood. It looks as though there are different kinds of wood and some look to be burls or other rare woods. The background is painted in oil paint with a variety of colors. It looks as though there was a varnish covering the whole panel that looks as though it had alligatored from being in an attic for decades. It also looks as though someone attempted to remove the varnish and in turn has removed some of the original paint. It still shows beautifully. Really gorgeous colors and composition. The other panel is a fish and snail underwater. The fish is in inlaid wood and the snail, the fish eye, and the fish bubbles look to be some sort of mother of pearl. This panel has had the same attempted clean which looks to have impacted the blue and green painted background. Again, still a beautiful panel. Really a great pair of original arts and crafts work. The label is on the back of the fish panel. Do your own research on these. See if you can figure out who created them. Really an outstanding pair of original work.
