You are looking at apretty and very rare variant of the 708 A \"Stratoliner\" microphone produced during the 1940\'s and 50\'s. The Shure Brothers508CVDynamic model which comes withoriginal paint and working element.
This 508CV \"Stratoliner\" has a strong deco influence andhas a design based closely on the Zepplins produced during the 1930\'s.The original paint isdecent withtypical scratches and chips in thefinishas seen in the pictures provided. There are no dents however and this particular Stratoliner has the desirable chrome accents in the grill and fins. The joint mechanism works flawlessly. The chrome on thelower chassis haslittle wear. The label has wear but is completely legible.The threads for the stand and cable are perfect (nothing is stripped). Theblack silkscreen is perfect being free of any rips or holes and the red painted stripes running the length of themic are in good shape and original.
I was told by a few collectors that the crystal element actually sounded better when Shure produced this microphone as it came with either a crystal element or dynamic element. I have heard all the old crystal 708 A mics and they sound like garbage today. The crystal elements justdon\'t hold up over time. This dynamic 508 A sounds beautiful. Tested and working very well and the element is 100% original. These dynamic versions are extremely hard to come by as Shure Brothers sold so few compared to the 708 A with the crystal elements.
I can\'t stress the rarity of this mic enough.
