Vintage 1940\'s Shure 55 Fatboy dynamic microphone Elvis old w Atlas DS-5 stand:
$277.00

Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

You are looking at a nice 1940\'s era Shure Brothers 55 model (1st generation) dynamic microphone rebadged as the DY-11 and often referred to as the \"Fatboy\" made famous by several musicians including a young Elvis Presley himself. Classic, clean deco lines give this mic the attention it deserves. This 55 made it\'s debut in 1939 and had a run of 11 years until the second generation of smaller 55 Smics came along in 1951. A cast zinc body with aglossy satin chrome finish and comes with a 50\'s era Atlas adjustable DS-5 desk stand.

The DY-11 was nothing more than a \"Fatboy\" that was sold with additional audio equipment. There is no difference between the DY-11 and the regular 55.

The 55 model has the adjustable impedance switch for Low, Medium and high impedance. This was a top of the line dynamic cardioid microphone in it\'s day and one of the best money could buy. In today\'s dollars adjusted for inflation it was about $2000.00 minimum. Physically speaking this 55 is pretty good condition but it is showing it\'s age.

It should be noted that this microphone no longer works though it has the original element inside with all the wiring and transformer. This should be used strictly for display or prop purposes only. About half the Fatboy\'s I come across don\'t even work at all so this is actually quite common. You could always get this mic and replace the element with something newer if needed. I know a gentleman who actually converts these into ribbon microphones.

A nice early 55 is getting hard to find. This particular 55has typical but lite wear as you can see in pics provided. The satin chrome finish has tiny pitting and lite scratches with small dents on the lower pistol grip but zero engravings. The violet silk screens are evenly colored but slightly faded and there are a few holes in the silk as well. The chrome still glows nicely though.

The Shure badge shows paint loss but still partially legible. You\'ll notice there is no damage to the threading where the cable attaches. The center Shure insignia shows no wear and still present. I\'d give this 55 mic a true 6 on a scale of 1 - 10.

This 55 comes with original hardware and unlike too many 55\'s for sale on ...this onestill has the original front and rear grills. The original screws have been oiled to prevent from seizing which happens when they start to corrode.

She\'ll make a great display piece anywhere in the home or office.MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS PART OF THIS SALE...

The stand is an Atlas make from the 1950\'s era and perfect for just about any older vintage microphone. The design and Atlas logo shows that it\'s clearlyan early generation DS-5 desk stand made in Brooklyn, NY. There is the smallest of discoloration on the original grey paint and there is very lite rust stains on the bottom but it has been thoroughly cleaned and looks very nice. Total length is 11inches high x 6 inches wide.

The chrome stem shows very lite wear. Please let the detailed pics be your guide. All 3 original rubber pads are in excellent condition. The stand will accept just about any microphone with the exception of a few Astatic mics due to their unusual 3 pin attachment. All E.V, Shure and Turner mics will screw on however. This stand has the universal 5/8 thread.

This is perfect for the old \"Fatboy\" 55 or 55 Sbecause of it\'s wide, stable base and manufacture date (being early 50\'s).This stand is an easy 7 + on a scale of 10.

And as always...

I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid. If not...I have a no hassle return policy. The shipping will be on you as I believe that\'s fair but the purchase price would be refunded. Simply return in the same nice condition...period. Check my rating. International buyers are welcome as well. Buyer must pay within 24 hours or an unpaid case will be opened and item relisted. Domestic buyer will get priority shipping.

If you have any questions feel free to ask and...thanks for
