Vintage 1950s Uncle Mose (Moses) Black Americana Mini Cast Iron Skillet
This is Uncle Mose, Aunt Jemima\'s Husband. It measures 3 1/4\" wide x 4 1/2\" high. Item is spoon rest, ashtray or wall decoration. Item is a collectible, part of black americana and black memorabilia.
Uncle Mose is framed inside the skillet in the profile position in high relief. The paint has some wear due to age and there is some surface wear.
The character of Uncle Mose was from the song \"Old Man Mose\" and Aunt Jemima was created to help Quaker Oats sell their brand. Quaker Oats bought the brand in 1926. Such things as the salt and pepper shakers. The self rising flower that featured Aunt Jemima. The black americana collectibles became the mass marketing strategy for the turn of the twentieth century. And created a whole new idea for companies to market and featured the longest lived black Americana Aunt Jemima character. Most of it was produced from the 1920s-1950s but as early as the 1800s. Although, some people find black memorabilia to be offensive or insulting but surprisingly their are some big time collectors of African American heritage such as Oprah Winfrey to name one.
