Vintage Bulova \"6\" Transistor Radiowith Original Bulova Hard Case
This is a wonderful vintage transistor radio...and a key piece of electronics historyIf you are not familiar with the history of the transistor radio...here is a peek.....In 1954 the Regency TR-1 became the first mass-produced transistor portable radio. The most collectible and historic vintage transistor radioswere made in America from 1955 to 1960 and in Japan from 1956 to 1963. An easy way to date an early transistor radio from this period is to look forthe small \"triangles\" or \"circles\" between the 6 and 7, 12 and 16 on the dial. These were the Civil Defense (CD) marks, which appeared on all radiosmanufactured or sold in the United States from 1953 to 1963. The first Japanese transistor radio was introduced to the US in 1957.
This is aBULOVA \"6\" TRANSISTOR radio in it\'s original hard caseBulova had many of their radios made in Japan to specific Bulova specifications and under Bulova engineering supervisionImported and then sold in the United States the higher end models such as this were sold exclusively at Jewelry storesBulova promoted their transistor radios as being....\"made with watchmaker accuracy\"Radio body is ivory in color with a shiny gold-tone almost chrome face (including speaker cover)There is a \"starburst\" with a rhinestone in the center along with 6-TRANSISTOR on the faceComes withthe original Bulova box that it came in....it is a \"hard case\" with silk inner lid liner with Bulova \"6\" Transistor printed on it in gold letteringHard case has a patterned cloth top with a simulated black leather bottom...in what I would consider to be NEAR MINT condition with little to no sign of wearCase has a flap closure at the front with a snap...closure flap snaps tightly and closes as designedWhen opened, the lid rests open just slightly past 90 degrees vertical as designedIt has a EAR/SPEAKER/OFF switch along the top....it clicks when moved from position to position as designedVolume dial and tuning dial turn freely and without any apparent problemsRear panel snaps tightly in placeUNABLE to test thisas it takes a \"unique\" battery (they can be purchased) and I have no other way to power this
CONDITION issues.....There are some minor surface scratches and abrasions (see pics)Case does show some signs of wear....there are minor scuffs, rubs, and scratches especially on the backside panel and the bottomThere is a minor chip (missing piece) to the upper left side of the case just above the volume knob(This does NOT impact the operation of the radio nor does it affect the rear panel from snapping tightly shut)There is a very very tiny hairline crack on the back panel where the \"coin slot\" is (approx 1/8\" long)Battery compartment terminals had some minor corrosion that has been removed by cleaning them
This is a RARE find....especially with the original case! The pictures do a much better job at describing this items than I ever could....please check them out!
