This is truly a wonderful vintage (1950\'s) Japanese tin and fur covered cat wind-up toy. The fur covered cat is wearing gold spectacles andcream coloredapron. She is holding a pair of knitting needles and a ball of yarn inher lap. When wound, the cat begins to knit. The cat is sitting on a tin lithograph with a colorful stamped living room and bedroom scenes. A TV console, furniture, etc.are depicted.Her fur has aged to a nice cream color. Both hands have little cracks in them(see pictures). The toy is made by Nomura, a Japanese toy producer. It was one of the biggest and most prolific of all post-war Japanese toy makers whichspecialized in mostly mechanical and wind-up friction toys featuring very creative designs.
