Seri Ironwood hand carved quail sculpture. It was made by the Seri Indians of Mexico. It is not signed or marked. It was purchased in the late 1960\'s-1970\'s from the Seri. It is in excellent used condition, but it does have a chip out of the tail. Mexican Ironwood carving is a handcraft that began with the Seri indigenous people of the State of Sonora. The wood comes from Olneya Tesota, a Sonora Desert tree commonly called ironwood . It is a slow growing important shade tree found in Northwest Mexico and the Southeast U.S.. The wood it produces is so dense that it lacks air bubbles and sinks in water. Traditionally, it was used for firewood and charcoal with some carving. This is natural wood so there will be imperfections in the wood grain. Measures 6\" Tall x 7 1/5\" long x 3\" wide. combine shipping when appropriate. See photos for details.
