Beautiful 1978 Russian lacquerbox. An original hand made and hand painted piece of art created by a well known artist Schagina in the town of Fedoskino - the oldest of the four legendary centers of Russian lacquer miniature painting along with Palekh, Kholui, and Mstyora.Russian lacquer artdeveloped from the art oficonpainting which came to an end with the Bolshevik Revolution and the collapse ofImperial Russia. The icon painters, who previously had been employed by supplying not only churches but people\'s homes, needed a way to make a living. Thus, the craft of making Papier-mâchédecorative boxes and panels developed, the items werelacqueredand then hand painted by the artists, often with scenes from folk tales. It is a lengthy and tedious process. This box depicts a tranquil landscape with cranes. Incredible detail, nice colors with pearlescentglow. The lid is hinged.The box is in good condition for its age - minor scuffs, minor chips. Includes original receipt.The box is approximately 2.75\" x 1.75\" x 1.25\".
