This sale is for a Franklin Mint Museum Collection Emperors of the Orient Chess Set by Yao Youxin. The armies of Ancient China confront the warriors of old Japan, in a magnificent Imperial chess set.

First issued in 1992, the chess set was inspired by the Imperial heritage of ancient China\'s Ch\'ing Dynasty and Japan\'s storied Tokugawa Shogunate - this was masterfully created by the world-renowned artist Yuo Youxin. The pieces are crafted in fine Tesori (R) porcelain, the distinctive sculptor\'s blend of powdered porcelain and resins, then hand-painted in vibrant colors and set off with richaccents of 24 karat gold. The largest figure is 4 1/4\" tall and the smallest is 2 7/8\" tall.

The Chess Board with its satin-black finish tempered glass surface and storage for all 32 chessmen, features dramatic Dragon and Chrysanthemum medallions -- accented with 24 karat gold--hand-set into its four sides. It is marbelized green and white squares outlined in gold and the board is surrounded by a gold metal frame. The inside of the box is lined in black velvet, with indentations to hold each piece. The box is a dark cherry finish with beautiful oriental detail. It measures 21\" x 21\" x 3 1/4\".

This set comes with cards describing each piece, but the following ones are missing: From the Japanese: 1 King, 1 Queen, 1 Knight ~ From ther Chinese: 1 King, 2 Knights, 1 Pawn.

It is quite likely this set was never used. This entire set is in beautiful condition with the only flaw being one of the Chinese Knights has his knife broken off (yes, I broke it), but it is there and can be glued back on (see 8th photo.)

The shipping box for the board/case will beabout 25\" x 25\" x 8\". Each piece has to be individually wrapped, they can not stay inside of the chess board during shipping. Therefore, the pieces and board/case will be sent in separate packages.Total shipping weight will be about 32 pounds. For shipping, I am charging a flat rate of $25 to the buyer and I will absorb the remainder of the shipping cost. I will only ship to the lower 48 contiguous States.

I recently purchased seven beautiful quality chess sets at a high end estate sale. I was told that the gentleman purchased them over the yearsfrom the Franklin Mintalong with the playing boards, and just hoarded them. Since some of the packaging has been opened, I will have to say they are \"used\", butthey certainly look new. Some of them werein their original boxes, with packing materials and paperwork, including ID cards and COA\'s. All these sets come in their cases which are lined with quality velvet-like felt protecting each piece. Even if you don\'t play chess, these magnificent sets would bring a touch of their drama to any setting. The seven sets consist of the following:
