Vintage Lot of 3 Antique Chinese Hand Carved Shoushan Stone Red Hard Soapstone Wild Horses Family. Stallion , Mare and Colt / Yearling on a custom carved wooden stand.
I want to say these are Antique as they look to be, but uncertain of their age. Definitely Vintage but likely much older.
The Stallion and Mare are approximately 6\" Tall X 6\' length X 2\" inches wide. The Yearling is approximately 5\" X 5\" X 2\".
The craftsmanship on these horses are masterful. The stone I believe is called ShouShan. It may be a red soapstone, but appears much harder like a rock stone and doesn\'t scratch with the fingernail like soapstone does. So perhaps it is a mineral stone and not a soapstone. You gemologists would know better than me. I acquired these because of the art and the craftsmanship in the carving, which is much higher in quality than we typically see coming out of China. Another reason to believe these may be much older than I thought. Total weight of the 3 horses on my postal scale is 2 pounds 12 ounces. These are not molded pieces. Each horse is hand carved - including the custom wood stand. The back hoofs of the Stallion curves up underneath. I thought originally it may be chipped under the bottom, but further examination I believe it is part of the carving exposing the natural stone.
I don\'t see any unusual scratches or gauges anywhere. They are are polished and display incredibly beautifully. saleed as we found them and no cracks. Please examine photos and (and use the zoom function) and ask any questions or concerns prior to offerding.
