A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY {for fun, from Wikipedia}:

Cross-stitch is the oldest form of embroidery and can be found all over the world.[1]Many folk museums show examples of clothing decorated with cross-stitch, especially from continentalEuropeandAsia. Two-dimensional (unshaded) cross-stitch in floral and geometric patterns, usually worked in black and red cotton floss on linen, is characteristic of folk embroidery inEasternandCentral Europe.[2]

The cross stitchsampleris called that because it was generally stitched by a young girl to learn how to stitch and to record alphabet and other patterns to be used in her household sewing. These samples of her stitching could be referred back to over the years. Often, motifs and initials were stitched on household items to identify their owner, or simply to decorate the otherwise-plain cloth. In the United States, the earliest known cross-stitch sampler is currently housed atPilgrim HallinPlymouth, Massachusetts.[3]

Traditionally, cross-stitch was used to embellish items like household linens, tablecloths, dishcloths, anddoilies(only a small portion of which would actually be embroidered, such as a border). Although there are many cross-stitchers who still employ it in this fashion, it is now increasingly popular to work the pattern on pieces of fabric and hang them on the wall for decoration. Cross stitch is also often used to make greeting cards, pillowtops, or as inserts for box tops, coasters and trivets.

My career began in the Garment District of New York City. I remember going on lunch breaks walking by a plethora of Italian men who were hanging out chatting. They were the sample makers. I went to sample sales at every opportunity while I was scrounging to make ends meet and still look fabulous.

Fast forward many years and I have been fortunate to travel the world while working in fashion and retail. I have a tendency to like European designers, especially Escada and Feraud as their fit is consistent and seems to work with the American body type (especially for those of us who are not perfect!)

When in Frankfurt, I would take two trains and a taxi to hit my favorite outlet store. I believe in the European way of ‘wardrobing’: having a few, high quality items versus a lot of junk.

But our closets are bursting and it\'s time to go and I have begun exploring other closets to add to this one ... always hunting with that eye for quality and workmanship!

I promise to always describe and measure accurately, and will note any flaws so offer with confidence.
