This vintage 50\'s cream white hand painted gilded American apothecary jar measures 8 1/4\" x 4\". The jar has gild bands and a finial lid. The label is topped by a gild caduceus with two snake heads and framed by espaliered peach vines. The jar contained Amylum, a complex carbohydrate found in potatoes, wheat, rice and corn. It was used in a large number of patent medicines since ancient Greek times.
