Vintage 60's Modern Raw Silk Japanese Obi Long Kimono Sash:
This vintage raw silk Japanese Obi was purchased by my father in 1961 from a then famous Japanese Artist in Kyoto. We no longer know who the artist was, but he was thought to be quite innovative at the time with his bold patterns and primitive designs, evocative of the modern art movement in Europe and influenced by the pattern blocking of Matisse. It has never been used or worn, stored in cedar chest for over 50 years.I should have kept the box so we would know the provenance!Over 12 feet long, this unique artwork measures 12" by 150" and is made of thick woven heavy raw silk.
