Vintage handwoven cotton and dyed African indigo fabric, made by the Dogon in Mali. Textiles are dyed with the stitch/resist dying techniques and each piece is unique. All the ones I will be listing arehard to find, older indigo pieces in very good conditon, and all were used and soft from wear and washing. This 11 strip heavy weight piece is stitch dyed in a wonderful and rare diamond/zig-zag and“dot”pattern, with the center design two long stitch dyed lines.
Work isapproximately 42” x 58”. A very collectible piece due its unique design andwonderful faded blue color (due in part towear, sun, and variation of theweaving thread). Basically in very good condition but a major tear/hole in one side strip, a patched tear/hole on the other side strip, some seam repair (which is normal), a loosening of weaving on one“X”, and some small spots toward one end.I was lucky to have“first choice” of several large contianers of indigos, as they arrived directly from Africa, and have many that I will be selling, including striped indigos as well as patterned ones. I picked ones that were in the best condition, and/or the most unique, but there are almost always a few flaws, which I will note in my listings and photographs.(5987)_gsrx_vers_625 (GS 6.9.7 (625))
