A fantastic ALABASTER Statue of Leonardo da Vinci\'s \'THE LAST SUPPER\'

This is an alabaster statue based on Leonardo da Vinci\'s 1490’s mural painting on the back wall of the dining hall at the Dominican convent of Sta Maria delle Grazie in Milan, Italy.

Alabaster is a stone, a type of marble, which as a very thin powder is mixed with resins and other components creating a very smooth delicate finish which enables the inclusion of fine details. This was cast in a mold and then meticulously handcrafted, refined, and finished with specialized tools by the artist.

This statue has handcrafted figurines of Jesus and the Apostles. The table includes magnificent detail including loaves of bread, cups, plates, and an intricately designed tablecloth. The detail is evident on all sides of the statue (its like you were in the room and could walk around the table). When viewed with a magnifying glass, the detail is almost unbelievable with even fingernails on the fingers and toenails on the toes.

While this item is used, the overall condition is excellent. We can find no broken pieces, chips, nicks, or scratches. We do note, however, that the neck of the fourth figure from the right shows a small amount of debris under the chin left by the artist while carving the details. There is a small amount of dirt (dust) that has adhered over the years as this was brought back from the Holy Land in the early 1970’s by a traveler. We are leaving the decision as to whether to clean this to the buyer. (See the photos to judge for yourself.)

This stands 5 3/4\" high. The base is a rectangle that is 3 1/2\" by 13 1/4\". It is substantial weighing 8 pounds 7 ounces.
