This item is a Cairns leather fire helmet from the early-mid 1940\'s belonging to a member of the Chicago Fire Dept who was assigned to Truck 45 during that era, an being part of an estate collection, has been kept in an enclosed display cabinet in a smoke-free Environment for many decades. This member was assigned to this unit in the early 1940\'s when it was located at 95th & Charles Ave. in the Beverly neighborhood of Chicago, and before this unit moved to the new firehouse that was built in 1949 at 111th & Albany in the Mt. Greenwood neighborhood of the city. The helmet has a metal tag with New York stamped on it, indicating that it was manufactured PRIOR to 1947 and is in very nice condition considering it\'s age. (SEE PICS)History conveyed on this move was that another truck, Truck 40, which was at a firehouse just south of Midway airport, was supposed relocate into the new Mt. Greenwood firehouse, but the Captain of Truck 45 lived right down the street from the new firehouse and he pulled strings to get his unit to be relocated there so he could walk to work, and then Truck 40 ended up going into the firehouse on 95th St where Truck 45 originally was.*Please wait for us to invoice the winner with the correct shipping charge as the calculators for FedEx/USPS/UPS continue to be very inaccurate.*
