Great conversation piece. Or a great, even somewhat unusual looking, piece for a collector and it is in great condition.
One reference for this piece says:
This is an antique E. & J. Bass silverplate butter pick. (E. & J. Bass was in business in New York City from 1890 until 1930 making sterling and silverplated items for the home.) This butter pick was used to select an individual serving of butter from a serving dish.(During the late 19th/early 20th century, butter was formed into balls or shaved into curlsfor serving.) This unnamedpattern features facing scrolls on the handle and a single tine. What an elegant way to select butter for toast!!
