There\'s something about old wood boxes that speak to me. When I saw this one at an sale, I just had to have it. Never mind that I have no need for a stone such as this. It\'s time now for me to pass it on to a new owner who appreciates primitive antiques like I do, but could also use a sharpening stone.

Because I purchased thisat an sale,I don\'tknow anything about its past history or other details. Please rely on your own judgment and research when considering whether to buy.

The box has tons of character. I don\'t know if the \"R\" and \"S\" and the decals of the two women are original or were placed there after purchase by the owner. It may be that the original owner had the initials \"R.S\", or that the \"R S\" has something to do with the manufacturer of either the box or the stone. You decide. This is being sold \"as is\" with regard to \"R S\" as it applies to the manufacturer of either the box or the stone.

The box measures 7 3/8\" long by 3 9/16\" wide by just under 3\" tall. I don\'t know what type of wood it\'s made of.

The stone measures 5 15/16\" long by 2\" wide by just under 1\" thick as measured at the thickest part. While I don\'t have any experience with these stones, this one appears to me to be fine - very fine grit. Notice the wear to the stone, on just one side, from past use.

Please refer to the images to form your own conclusionsabout cosmetic condition. Your opinionstake precedence over any subjective opinion of mine. In my opinion, there is\"honest wear\" to the box that\'s from past use over the years, the piano hinge in the back isin great shape, the front clasp is in great shape, there is wear to thedecals on the lid, what appear to be drill holes on the underside of the top lid, etc. Other imperfections may exist. Note that I had recently applied some fine wood oil to the outside of the box within an hour before taking the photos. Some of the sheen that you see in the images may dissipate - possibly even before its arrival.

I do not know the actual age of this item; itis being sold “as-is” with regard to my use of thetermantique in the listing title. I think I\'m safe with the vintage part.
