They were placed on the end of a \"Tobacco stick,\" and the cut stalk of Tobacco was impaled on the spike and pulled down onto the wooden stick until about six stalks were loaded, then the full stick was hung up to dry.Modern methods of harvesting are making these tools obsolete, and the ones not thrown away are becoming collectors\' items.They are a typical length of about 6 1/2 inches tall, with a base of 1 1/2 by 2 inches in diameter. nice, usable spikes.
