Vintage Art Deco Owens-illinois Apothocary Show Globe:
This is a very rare large, vintage Art Deco Owens-Illinois pharmacy or apothacary show globe, which was displayed in the windows of drugstores to indicate that there was a pharmacist on the premises and that medicines were dispensed, and they were usually filled with colored water. The Owens-Illinois glass company was practically the sole manufacturer of these show globes, which were popular from the late 1800s up until the 1960s. Large jars like this one are extremely hard to find, usually commanding high prices at sale. This jar is from the 1920s, is in excellent shape, and comes with a heavy, blown glass replacement stopper. The stand is classic Art Deco, in silver with black accents. This would look amazing either filled with colored water or left empty, decorating a hall table, a buffet or bureau, a mantle, or a bathroom. Breathtaking in its proportions, this is a true show stopper that is sure to garner many compliments for years to come. I have enjoyed it, but now I'm ready to let it go to a new home. It took me many years to find this one -- don't let it get away! Overall Dimensions when jar is in stand and stopper is in place are 20"H x 10"W. Breakdown is as follows: Stand 10.75"H x 9"W; Jar 13"H x 10"W; Stopper 4"H x 2.50"W.
