Here is a vintage Bausch & Lomb Automatic Arc Lamp model 42-44-86. From my research on-line I found these were used as microscope illuminators (very bright - I would assume projection microscopes), and also as light sources for magic lantern type projectors.

Carbons are on a motor driven chain/sprocket mechanism for automatic feeding as they burn down. They feed at right angles to each other. There is also a limit switch which disconnects power when they are too short. Carbon holding clamps will accept carbons up to about 0.33\" / 8mm in diameter. Drive mechanism is powered by a Bodine Electric Co. universal (AC or SC) 350:1 gear motor. It looks like one of their \"N-Line\" motors which would date this piece around 1930- 1940. Motor is mounted so I cannot read full nameplate to verify.

Arc Lamp is in very good condition with no damage, only some loss of paint to wood handle. Wiring looks good inside. Mechanics for moving carbons is fine. Motor looks OK, it tests good for continuity. I haven\'t run it but at worst you\'re probably looking at cleaning and lubricating the motor\'s bearings.
