Vintage Betsy Mccall Ballerina Outfit:
In the late 1950's or early 1960's I was given an 8" Betsy McCall doll. When I left home for college in the 1970's, I left her behind at my parents' house for safekeeping so that I could give her to a daughter someday. Unfortunately, my parents' house was destroyed by fire in 1992 and my Betsy doll was lost. Somehow, some of my other dolls and their clothes were saved by the fire fighters and treated to some time in an ozone room to remove any smoke smell.
I just couldn't look at the items until recently when I rediscovered them in a closet on a shelf.
While sorting through the remaining items, I discovered some of my Betsy McCall's clothes. Her clothes didn't have labels in them, though, so I've been trying to figure out which ones are original and which ones might have been made by my grandmother. I'm going to be letting go of them since I no longer have the doll.
I've seen this outfit in other listings, so I know it's part of the wardrobe made by her maker. It's the top and skirt to the Ballerina outfit. The rest of the outfit is gone, sadly. They aren't perfect, and were lovingly played with, but perhaps they will find a home with someone who is hunting for them. This was always my favorite outfit of hers.
