Please read the complete description BEFORE you offer. This cute, 8” Betsy Mc Call and case are in played-with condition andappropriate for the beginning collector, as an inexpensive model for the manyclothes made for Betsy or for your child/grandchild to play with and to STAYOUT of YOUR collection! ;-) Her outfit is in Excellent condition as youwill find out when you read below.

You will find that I am very ‘picky’ in my description. In fact, it will be very hard to tell, butshe is a ‘put together’ girl. I havebeen collecting Betsy parts for a very long time and I was able to give her a headwith ‘skin’ color very close to the coloring of her body. The head is from a 1957 Betsy doll and herwig is from a 1958-1964 Betsy doll which matches the time period as the rest ofher. Her arms and legs are also a closematch to her torso. All of her parts areoriginal, vintage Betsy McCall parts and are a pleasing match together.

Betsy’s positive points:

-- SHINY,thick, BLOND hair rooted into a skull cap with NO BALD SPOTS

-- prettyface complexion with NO CHEEK RUBS, however,read about her blush in the section below

-- lovely BLUEeyes with perfect upper lashes

-- armshave a band made from rubber tubing that was cut the same size as the original,arms not loose and will hold poses nicely

-- head stillhas its ORIGINAL RUBBER BAND, allowing for many poses

-- kneesbend easily; left knee holds only the 90 degree (kneeling) pose; rightknee holds 45 degree to 90 degree poses

NOTE: I am not listing the swingy left lower legunder the ‘Not-So-Positive’ section because I feel that this is the result ofage rather than misuse or play.

-- clean,PINKY skin tone overall—not faded or yellowed by exposure to negativeEnvironmental effects

-- NOSTAINS

-- McCallmark in a circle on her back

-- Thisgirl CAN SIT with a gentle pressure on her hips, however, she will need a standfor standing balance.

-- Herlegs are stable enough to allow her to stand with careful positioning of herarms and legs (a little swingy as are most).She will still need a stand for safe display.

Not-so-positive points:

(I ambeing very, very nit-picky about things that some other Sellers wouldn\'t havebothered listing and which may have gone unnoticed without my mentioningthem. I do not believe that they takefrom her loveliness, nor her collect ability.Some issues are very minor and some may be important to you)

-- eyesopen and close with help (not a bad thing—I just wanted to mention it)

-- Hercheeks are a yellow-orange color which probably wasn’t how they looked when she wasnew. However, I have no idea what couldhave made them change this way. You canleave them as they are, use a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser to wipe them away (leavingno color—be careful not to rub out her lower eyelashes!) or if you are able,use an airbrush and lightly spray on a rose color after you remove thediscolored blush.

-- rubberskull cap is in vintage condition, understandable, considering the rubber isover 50 years old—the old rubber has some tears and is crumbling in quite a fewplaces, but are all are hidden by her hair

-- Thereis a small chip of paint missing from the bottom edge of her lower lip—is notnoticeable unless you are looking at her ‘up close’.

-- crotchseam has narrowly opened (less than 1/16” wide); left side seam may have beenreglued; left shoulder seam is narrowly open (about 1/4” long)

-- eachknee has one tiny crack

-- the rightlower leg has 2 very thin lines, which is common to these dolls—hey! I’m over50 also and Betsy’s legs look much better than mine!

Clothes:

Betsy comes with the light tan jodhpurs variation of the 1959-1963‘Pony Pals’outfit. The combined felt pants andcotton top are in very nice condition—clean with shiny white binding on theneck and sleeve edges and no stains or holes.There are small tears in the felt at the base of the back opening and afew loose/missing stitches at the bottom ends of the ‘creases’ in the pantslegs (this is because this stitching is not back-stitched on any of the jodhpurpants when they are made.

The shoes are vintage originals to Betsy, however, shoes didnot originally come with this outfit. Iincluded a pair so Betsy doesn’t have to walk in the horse barn barefoot! Both shoes still have their knobs and no splitsin the ‘buttonholes’ of the straps. I donot button the shoes any more to insure the integrity of these 50 year olditems!

Case:

The Amsco Toys Company created Pretty Pacs in differentstyles for many years which sported the Betsy McCall logo. Originally, they came with a plastic trayfilled with grooming products. Now,however, they work well to store the 8” Betsy McCall doll and her outfits. This is the 1955 version of Betsy’s PrettyPac and is the FIRST one produced with her name on it. Some, but not all, of the cases were soldwith travel stickers on the outside. ThePretty Pac in this sale has 2 travel stickers on the inside of the lid.

This case is in fairly good condition with a working zipper thathas No missing teeth. The plaid materialaround the outer edge has no holes or tears, however, there is a small stain ordirty area on the material. There issome corrosion on the metal pieces that surround the places where the handlegoes into the case. A lot of stitchingis missing around the top and bottom bindings.(I know all this detail makes the case sound bad, but just remember thatit is vintage and played-with.) TheBetsy graphic on the outside lid has some scrapes and both the lid and bottomcardboard has some wrinkles. The insideof the lid has lovely printed graphics and 2 vintage travel stickers. The wrinkling in the cardboard goes from theoutside to the inside of the lid and bottom cardboard.

Just for Fun:

I have also included a wooden toy wagon handcrafted sometime ago (it is very dirty!--perhaps you can find a way to take each piece out of the wagon and clean them). A vintageyardstick with portions of printed advertising was cut up and used for thesides—even the wheels and handle are wooden.Inside is a scrap of a doll-sized , pieced and hand-quilted quilt, awooden toy horse and a cloth and yarn Raggedy Ann doll.
