This Vintage Antique Brown & White Toile
Transferware cup was made by the
Broadhurst Company. (James Broadhurst
& Sonshave manufactured tableware at
their pottery, in Stoke-on-Trent, since 1847.)
The pattern depicts a town, mill house,
fisherman and horse.The Bottom is stamped type of Brown & White Toile Transferware
was developed & popularized in England,
during the 1750\'s, at the beginning of the
Industrial Revolution. This cup can be
decoratively displayed, or used as part of a
table setting. There are no chips or cracks.
This piece were purchased at an antique flea
market in the city of Bremen, in Germany, over
20 years ago, and hand carried to the USA. Height: 2 13/16 inches

It is a classic decorating pattern that is over
200 years old. In 1779, the introduction of
copper plates made the characteristic precise
and detailed drawings possible. Toile dishes
typically consist of only two colors and usually
portray pastoral scenes, from daily life, or
historical landmarks, such as castles. Transferware is the term assigned to ceramics
that are decorated with motifs that are applied
by engravings transferred from a copper
engraving, to a special tissue, and then onto a
