Brush Cow with Cat Cookie Jar. Brown/Beigh in color
Up for sale is a vintage cow and cat cookie jar by Brush pottery. It is a brown cow with a little winking cat finial on it\'s back. The back is the part that lifts for filling with cookies. This measures approximately 12.5 x 8 inches. There are no chips or cracks, it does have crazing in areas. The cow has a reddish tongue hanging out, a bell painted around her neck. On the bottom it is marked Brush USA with the symbol of a palette, and W 10. I am not sure of the age, possibly 1940\'s or 50\'s. This is an original, not a fake. Bought from a local estate
this is old and information on marking~Some elements of the new mark are somewhat similar to original Brush Pottery marks. Perhaps the most confusing is the appearance of the letter W followed by a number. In original Brush Pottery cookie jars, the W indicated jars designed by Ross and Don Winton of Twin Winton Ceramics. The number corresponded to specific designs. The original elephant with ice cream cone, for example, has a W-8 molded in the base. The new Brush McCoy elephant is also marked with a W-8.
