Vintage Waechtersbach (German company that is said to have designed the first cylindrical / D-handle coffee mug - mid 20th century) mug in light cinnamon stone orange (see PPG1193-7 for color match if you like this color) with a black and white wraparound two-panel roadrunner design. This mug is in excellent condition. No chips, cracks, repairs, or crazing. It measures 3 7/8\" tall x 3 1/4\" across (excluding 1 1/4\" handle). Hand painted and fired ceramic made in Spain for Waechtersbach.Guaranteed microwave and dishwasher safe.Exact year unknown.
Roadrunner bird theme is common in the Native American art of the Zia Pueblo Pottery of New Mexico, USA. The Zia tribe is also known for the creation of the sun symbol that in modern times has been used for the Flag of the state of New Mexico.
This mug takes its design inspiration from Zia Pottery by Eusebia Shije, Sofia Medina and others. I\'ve included a museum sample of a canteen jar by Eusebia Shije (made about 1930) for comparison (3rd photo in the set).
